Framework was developed as an entrepreneurial senior capstone project involving converting customer requirements into engineering requirements, structural and thermal analysis, design of an electrical system, consideration of a business plan, and financial planning. The Framework team was technically adept and mission-driven.
Homelessness is a prominent issue all around the world, impacting both the victims and surrounding community. Unsheltered individuals suffer from public shame and are often disregarded. Along with mental health issues, drug abuse, family problems, and financial turmoil, a lack of affordable housing is preventing these individuals from focusing on rebuilding their lives. An abundance of funding from the government, local non-profit organizations, and county boards is being underutilized for housing the homeless. The cost of installing new low income housing units is extremely high, especially in areas where population density and land prices are increasing. Homeless shelters are often at capacity, and the pandemic increased demand for non-congregate housing solutions.
Framework is a housing solution for veteran homeless individuals who are striving to transition back into society. Homelessness is a multifaceted issue, and our prefabricated, rapidly deployable homes alleviate the stress of satisfying basic humanitarian needs, so that clients can feel dignified and focus on larger challenges at hand. The units are designed to provide privacy, security, and comfort to residents during a long term stay where they can focus on their transition back into society. The units can be arranged in a way that fosters community and optimizes space. We also plan on providing a guide on how to most effectively run the village and work in cohesion with local authorities, recovery services, and resources. We hope to reduce the chronically homeless population, minimize unsafe encampments, and provide a supportive community to guide the homeless population into permanent housing.
